The rapid expansion of social media has transformed traditional electoral campaigning and established these platforms as one of the most influential channels of communication between political candidates and voters. Despite the increasing use of social media in Iranian elections, a comprehensive understanding of the factors contributing to the success of parliamentary candidates’ political campaigns in these platforms remains limited. Therefore, the present study aimed to identify and explain the factors influencing the success of political campaigns of parliamentary candidates based on social media. This study was exploratory in purpose and qualitative in nature, employing Glaser’s (2008) classic grounded theory approach. The research population consisted of experts in political marketing, political branding, social media, and executive managers of electoral campaigns, who were selected through purposive and snowball sampling techniques. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 16 experts until theoretical saturation was achieved. The data were analyzed using open, selective, and theoretical coding procedures. To ensure the credibility of the findings, constant comparative analysis, expert review, and systematic documentation of the analytical process were employed, while coding reliability was confirmed through inter-coder agreement and Cohen’s Kappa coefficient. The analysis resulted in the extraction of 532 initial codes, 254 distinct codes, 62 concepts, 31 subcategories, and 9 main categories, including political identity and branding, trust-building and political legitimacy, political interaction and discourse-building, voter mobilization and activation, strategic social media management, campaign execution capabilities, social media opportunities, threats and barriers to campaign success, and outcomes of successful political campaigns. The findings indicated that the success of political campaigns on social media is shaped by the simultaneous interaction of identity-related, communicative, managerial, operational, and environmental factors. Ultimately, the proposed model provides a context-specific framework for designing and implementing effective political campaigns in parliamentary elections and contributes to the advancement of digital political marketing literature in Iran.
