Considering the expansion of the functions of new technologies in universities and the impact of managers in using technology in leading universities in the world, identifying managers' competence plays a significant role in creating smart transformations in university systems.
Method: This study is applied-developmental in terms of purpose and was conducted with a mixed exploratory approach. To identify the dimensions of managers' competence dimensions on the smart transformation of universities, the Grand Theory method was used, and to present a structural approach, the interpretive structural modeling method was used.
Findings: After analyzing the concepts, the interview text with 13 experts from academic elites, universities in Fars province, was open-coded and 187 codes were identified. Finally, through axial and selective coding, 24 axial components and 7 main dimensions (selective codes) were categorized in the form of dimensions of managers' competence on the smart transformation of universities.
Conclusion: Based on the analyses conducted, the main dimensions of the model include: 1- Regional and global capabilities; 2- Building intelligent humans; 3- Digital innovation and creating a digital landscape; 4- Lean thinking; 5- Changing the structure and nature of the organization; 6- Attracting geniuses and talents; and 7- Conflict management, which can be said that lean thinking has the greatest influence and the greatest impact in the presented dimensions.
